ULTIMATE KAS ITINERARY

I’ve visited Kas a few times, and it remains one of my favorite places to explore in Turkey with so much to do and see! Last year, we traveled through Kas on a one-month road trip across Turkey. This charming and picturesque coastal town is situated in the Antalya Province, nestled along Turkey’s stunning turquoise coastline. Kas offers an idyllic setting with its serene beaches, delectable cuisine, vibrant shopping scene, and much more, making it a hidden gem that shouldn’t be missed. Pronounced as ‘Kash,’ there are numerous reasons to include Kas on your itinerary. Check out my guide below to discover the top 14 reasons why you should add Kas to your travel list!

HOW TO GET AROUND IN KAS

The nearest airports to Kas are located in Dalaman (a two-hour drive away) and Antalya (a three-hour drive away). While everything in the Old Town is within walking distance, having a rental car provides the freedom to explore the surrounding areas. With a car, you can easily access outlying beaches and explore numerous day trip options.
 
If you don’t have a car, worry not! The convenient bus service, known as ‘dolmus,’ is at your service, effortlessly transporting you to most attractions. Alternatively, taxis are abundantly available and surprisingly affordable.

BEST ACCOMMODATIONS IN KAS

If you want to explore the town and its surroundings, including nearby villages and historic sites, 3 to 4 days should be enough. This gives you time to see the main sights and also relax on the beach.

If you want to do more, like scuba diving, kayaking, and hiking, or explore the area in-depth, consider staying for 5 to 6 days. This way, you can fully enjoy and appreciate everything Kas has to offer.

BLUE ISLAND LUXERY HOTEL 

Discover the allure of Blue Island Luxury Hotel, nestled in the picturesque Çukurbağ Peninsula of Kas. Many of their rooms boast breathtaking sea views, and for ultimate relaxation, enjoy the rooftop pool. Positioned at the start of the peninsula, the hotel is conveniently 2.5 km from the city center, accessible by a leisurely 40-minute walk or a quick 5-minute drive. A gorgeous beach is also just a stone’s throw away, adding to the hotel’s enchanting surroundings.

While in Kas, my preferred option is Airbnb. There are super cute options scattered throughout Kas at a very reasonable price. I have linked a couple of my favourites below: 

APARTMENT WITH SEA VIEW 

Perfectly situated, only a 5-minute stroll from the nearest beach. The apartment is roomy and bright, with a lovely balcony where you can enjoy the stunning views and sunset kas is famous for.

STONE APARTMENT WITH SEA VIEW 

If you crave tranquility away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. – A short 10-12 minute taxi ride to everything! The house is exclusively yours, with only a couple of cats and a friendly dog waiting for you every time you return. The spacious interior, along with a beautiful view from the window and balcony, offers a serene escape.



RESTAURANTS IN KAS

SALKIM OCAKBASI MEYHANE 

One of my favourite restaurants in Kas is this charming restaurant. Renowned for its authentic Turkish cuisine, it specialises in grilled meat dishes prepared in the traditional ‘ocakbaşı’ style over an open charcoal fire. Dining al fresco amidst a delightful garden, shaded by trees, enhances the cozy and inviting ambiance. The culinary experience here is truly divine, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Kas.

Pells yaz rüyasi

Pell’s Yaz Rüyasi is another fantastic spot in Kas. The food, service, and ambiance are all top-notch! Everything is cooked to perfection, and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. If you’re looking for a true Turkish breakfast experience, Pell’s is a must-visit, and the homemade jams are particularly delicious. It is also a super cosy space for dinner. A small menu, but done to perfection.

CINARLAR PIZZA GARDEN RESTAURANT  

This traditional restaurant is located in the heart of the Old Town and offers a delightful outdoor dining experience. It’s the perfect place to savour some of Turkey’s most delicious specialties and is renowned for its wood-fired pides, a Turkish-style pizza cooked to perfection. Overall, this restaurant is an excellent choice for those seeking an authentic taste of Turkish cuisine in a charming and lively atmosphere.

DUDU MUTFAK  

Here’s a great option for breakfast that’s not only delicious but also charmingly decorated with a lovely mix of pastel pillows, tables, chairs, and plates. The ambiance is sure to put a smile on your face, and the food is equally delightful!

MANOS GREEK TAVERN 
This restaurant was an amazing find! A little off the beaten path, but still close to the center. A small, intimate space, delivering delicious home cooking. The seafood is super delicious – especially their sizzling garlic prawns!
 
ZULA MEYHANE 
What makes dinner at this restaurant truly special is the ambiance. The tables are situated in an airy open courtyard, surrounded by stone walls adorned with red and turquoise shutters and trim. In the evenings, fairy lights illuminate the courtyard, creating a dreamy and romantic setting for dinner. And let’s not forget about the food – it’s packed full of flavour, and the seafood is always incredibly fresh.


BEST THINGS THINGS TO DO IN KAS

1-EXPLORE THE SEAS

One of my favourite things to do in Kas is to take a day boat trip and explore the seas.

Organising a boat tour in Kas is easy at the harbour, where you can negotiate with boat owners to find the perfect option based on your budget. Choose between private or public boats according to your personal preference. We opted for a private boat and had a spectacular full-day excursion, complete with a scrumptious lunch of fresh fish, meze’s, and salads included in the price. Cruising along the pristine coastline and exploring the islands of Kas was an unforgettable experience, offering a unique perspective of the region’s natural beauty.

2-VISIT  KAPUTAS BEACH  

If you want to visit Kaputas Beach, be prepared to wake up early to avoid the crowds! Kaputas Beach holds a special place along the Kas coastline, just a short 30-minute drive from Kas centre. Renowned for its breathtaking turquoise waters and stunning scenery, it’s a must-visit spot for those who cherish the sun and sea. Getting to the beach is easy, whether you’re driving or taking a bus. All the buses depart from the main Dolmuce (bus station) in Kas city and will take you directly there.

3-DISCOVER THE HIDDEN COVES WITH A WATER TAXI  

A taxi boats can take you to secluded and lesser-known coves along the picturesque coastline of Kas!

The Limanagzi beaches, approximately 10 minutes from Kas, are hidden gems worth discovering! Accessible either by a serene hiking trail following the big pebble beach or by a delightful taxi boat ride departing from Kas’s harbor, these beaches offer a tranquil escape from the city bustle. There are three distinct coves known collectively as the Limanagzi beaches. The taxi boat ensures convenient stops at each for around 50 TL Since there are no cars, the beaches remain untouched and offer a serene and tranquil experience. Along the water’s edge, you will find restaurants and cafes where you can indulge in local cuisine while enjoying the picturesque surroundings.

4-HIKE UP THE MOUNTAIN FOR SUNSET OR SUNRISE 

If you have an extra day in Kas, don’t miss the opportunity to hike up the mountain for an incredible sunrise or sunset views overlooking the city. The hike begins at the main road and takes approximately 45 minutes, as it is part of the famous Lycian Way trail. You don’t need to be an expert hiker to enjoy this experience, as the trail is accessible to all skill levels. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic vistas of Kas and its surrounding landscape.

5- VISIT THE VILLAGE OF KALEKOY AND EXPLORE THE SUNKEN CITY

Discover the charm of Kalekoy harbor in Kas and its fascinating sunken city during your visit to the area. Kalekoy, also known as Simena, is a picturesque coastal village boasting charming stone houses, narrow streets, and captivating castle ruins.

Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the ancient Lycian sunken city, partially submerged in the sea. You can kayak around the sunken city or go snorkeling to uncover the underwater ruins, which include ancient tombs, staircases, and walls. It’s a unique experience that provides a glimpse into the region’s rich history and culture.

Moreover, Kalekoy offers stunning views of one of Kas’s most iconic landmarks: Kekova Island, which you can reach by boat.

6-EXPLORE THE OLD TOWN

Kas Old Town exudes charm with its picturesque cobbled streets adorned with colorful facades. Here, you’ll find an array of quaint boutiques, cozy cafes, and inviting al fresco dining options. It’s the perfect destination to immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of this beautiful region.

7-ENJOY SUNSET FROM THE AMPHITHEATER

A short walk from town lies an ancient amphitheatre that offers stunning views during sunset and evening when it is illuminated. It’s worth climbing up there for an unforgettable experience. 

8-Visit pATARA BEACH

Patara Beach is situated on the southwestern coast of Turkey and holds the distinction of being the country’s longest beach, stretching over 12 kilometers. Its natural splendor is characterized by golden sand dunes and crystal-clear waters, making it a picturesque destination.

What sets Patara Beach apart is its historical significance. Among its attractions are the ancient ruins, including those of the ancient city of Patara itself. This combination of stunning natural beauty and rich historical heritage makes Patara a must-visit destination for both history enthusiasts and beach lovers alike.

9-Soar Above Kas and go Paragliding

Experience the thrill of  tandem paragliding over Kas’s stunning turquoise coast. Certified pilots lead 30-minute flights, offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding landscapes. It’s the perfect way to see Kas from a whole new perspective!

10-EXPLORE GREECE WITH A DAY TRIP TO MEIS ISLAND
Did you know you can take a day trip to Greece from Kas? Kastellorizo Island, also known as Meis, is just a 20-minute ferry ride away from the Old Town harbour. The island features a charming waterfront area adorned with waterfront taverna’s serving fresh fish, colourful picturesque houses, along with a stunning coastline perfect for swimming and lounging. Don’t miss the chance to visit the Blue Grotto, a captivating sea cave waiting to be explored by boat.

11- EXPLORE PINARA: ANCIENT CITY

Explore Pinara, an ancient Lycian city near Mount Babadag, only an hour’s drive from Kas. Walk along a scenic trail through temples and impressive tombs carved into cliffs. This unique journey reveals the area’s rich history and stunning landscapes.

12- Explore Kas’s Coastline and Its Beaches

Kucuk Cakil (Little Pebble Beach)

Just a short walk from Old Town Kas lies Küçük Çakıl, or Little Pebble Beach, a hidden gem with a small pebble cove embraced by rocky cliffs and sparkling turquoise waters.

Buyuk Cakil (Big Pebble Beach)

A leisurely 20-minute stroll from Old Town Kas leads to Buyuk Cakil beach, where rocky outcrops meet the serene sea. Visitors can rent sun-beds and umbrellas for comfort while enjoying a variety of beachside restaurants.

Cinar Beach

Nestled along the scenic route to luxurious coastal hotels, Cinar Beach offers an idyllic setting with crystal-clear waters ideal for sunbathing and swimming.

13-Adventure Awaits: Explore Saklikent Canyon

Discover the breathtaking beauty of Saklikent Canyon, situated just an hour from Kas and ideal for a full-day adventure! This stunning natural wonder ranks as the second-longest canyon in Europe. Whether you opt for a hike along rocky terrain, a refreshing journey through the icy waters of the gorge, or simply wish to soak in the mesmerising views, Saklikent Canyon guarantees an unforgettable experience.

After your day of exploration, unwind at one of the super cute restaurants lining the water’s edge. Saklikent Restaurant Paradise Park is a serene spot by the water in Saklikent Canyon. Colourful cushions add to its charm. After exploring, relax here with tasty food and enjoy the rugged canyon views.

14-DISCOVER Kalkan: a Stone’s Throw from Kas 

Kalkan is a charming coastal town located just 30 minutes west of Kas. With its picturesque harbor, colorful quaint old town, and an array of shops, cafes, and restaurants, Kalkan exudes charm at every turn.

If you’re seeking a destination for dining, swimming, relaxation, and leisurely sightseeing, Kalkan is an excellent choice for a short getaway!

During our stay, we lodged at the dreamy Patara Prince Resort where we spent a few nights. Patara provides panoramic sea views, private pools, terraces, restaurants and stone platforms to swim from.

There’s a taxi boat, which takes you directly into Kalkan in 10 minutes!

Belgin’s Kitchen Restaurant:

Belgin’s Kitchen is a standout favourite of mine, boasting authentic Turkish cuisine and charming decor tucked away in a Kalkan laneway. With two terraces offering cozy seating options and stunning views, it’s an unforgettable experience enhanced by magical sunsets and dreamy ambiance.

Small House Restaurant:

Small House is a hidden gem, offering an intimate dining experience with a charming Turkish aesthetic. Whether you secure the famous window table or opt for alfresco dining, the inviting atmosphere feels like dining in a cozy living room. The divine food and mezze’s ensure a memorable visit.

Salonika 1881:

Salonika 1881 is a delightful dining spot nestled in vibrant alleyways, featuring a menu of mouth-watering mezze’s, chargrilled meats, and seafood with a unique Turkish twist. The restaurant also boasts a lovely bar with a great ambiance, perfect for pre-dinner drinks or post-dinner nightcaps.
