Menorca is a relatively small island, making it easy to explore its stunning landscapes, charming towns, and beautiful beaches. Here are the best ways to get around and make the most of your visit:
We went with Ok Mobility, which was by far the cheapest car rental company we found. They are reliable, with straightforward procedures. The pickup location is just 5 minutes from the airport, and they offer a free shuttle service to and from the airport for added convenience.
Although the weather is glorious, summer (late June to August) can be quite busy on the island. I recommend visiting in spring (April to early June) or autumn (September to early October) when it’s still warm enough for swimming, and you’ll enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere.
One important tip, especially if you’re not renting a car, is to choose your base wisely. Menorca might seem small, but once you’re there, you may find yourself reluctant to drive 40 minutes across the island just for a beach. Where you stay will shape what you can see and do, as most of your exploring will likely happen in nearby areas unless you have a car.
In the heart of Mahón, Jardí de Ses Bruixes Boutique Hotel combines historic charm with modern comfort, housed in a beautifully restored building from 1811.
The hotel has a cosy café, ideal for starting your day, and the surrounding streets are filled with great local restaurants to explore. Plus, the harbour is just a 5-minute walk away, making it easy to soak up Mahón’s coastal charm from this lovely base.
Hotel Morvedra Nou offers cosy rustic rooms. Each room features a private terrace or garden, and some include a private swimming pool.
You can rent a car or bicycle at the hotel, and the friendly staff can help arrange activities like horseback riding, kayaking, Plus, beautiful beaches like Cala Turqueta are just a 15-minute drive away!
There’s also a stunning sunset bar that’s perfect for enjoying beautiful views, sipping wine, and savouring tapas.
Just a 5-minute drive from Cala de Llucalari Beach, Menorca Experimental in Alaior is the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. Enjoy the outdoor pool, lovely gardens, and terrace, along with a great on-site restaurant. Plus a beautiful hammam for extra relaxation!
Set in the countryside of Alaior, Amagatay Menorca is a peaceful getaway on a 30-hectare farm surrounded by beautiful olive trees. You’ll find a large outdoor pool to unwind, along with a bar and a stunning restaurant nestled among the olive trees. The decor throughout is absolutely dreamy!
Just 7 km from Mahón Airport and about a 10-minute drive from the stunning Son Bou beach, Amagatay Menorca is the perfect base for relaxing in nature and exploring the best of Menorca’s coast.
Tucked away at the quieter end of Menorca, we stayed here for a few nights, and this stunning villa did not disappoint. Located in a quiet area with no attractions within walking distance, it’s perfect if you have a car, as everything is easily accessible. The villa boasts a large terrace with several cosy nooks, a beautiful pool, and a spacious kitchen-dining area-ideal if you want a break from dining out. Plus, there’s a beautiful sunrise spot just 2 minutes from the villa, offering the perfect start to your day.

Pintarroja, led by renowned chef Eugeni de Diego, has quickly become one of Menorca’s favourite beach bars. The menu celebrates the flavours of the island, fresh seafood, Sobrasada and Mahón cheese. Dining here in the beautiful setting of Es Castell is a perfect way to enjoy the Mediterranean summer!
Discover a charming little chiringuito, perfect for enjoying tapas and drinks with a stunning view of the sea. This seasonal gem offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can unwind and savor the flavors of Menorca.
Since it’s open only during the warmer months, be sure to check the opening times before you visit.
La Calita overlooks a charming seaside cove, where boats and white-washed houses with olive green shutters enhance its dreamy location in Biniancolla. The small menu offers delicious, shareable dishes, perfectly complemented by an excellent wine selection.
The Binifadet winery has a beautiful terrace surrounded by vineyards. There, you can enjoy fresh, local dishes that pair perfectly with their wines. It’s the ideal place for a memorable meal! You can also organise a vineyard tour, along with tastings and pairings, to fully immerse yourself in the experience.
At Ivette Beach Club, you ca enjoy a dining experience in one of Menorca’s most beautiful coves. Located right on the waterfront at Cala Morell, their restaurant brings you the true flavours of the Mediterranean.

Nonna Bazaar in Ciutadella is a lively restaurant just 5 minutes from the town centre. Enjoy live music and a great bar in this special spot in the Menorcan countryside, where you can savour tasty food, dance, and catch stunning sunset views.
Surrounded by a beautiful 400-hectare landscape with farm animals and fields, Nonna Bazaar provides an unforgettable dining experience. The menu features high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, much of which comes from the on-site garden and orchard, ensuring a fresh farm-to-table experience you won’t forget.
Can Tanu, located in the charming village of Fornells, is a restaurant that specialises in all things seafood- especially their famous lobster rice, a local specialty! Be sure to book ahead, as this popular spot fills up quickly!
Another must-visit restaurant in Fornells, which specialises in lobster soup, fish stew, and delicious paella. Set on a picturesque street, this whitewashed venue offers charming al fresco tables where you can soak up the village atmosphere. We dined here and were not disappointed! The seafood rice we ordered was incredibly flavourful. Just a tip-avoid wearing white, as things can get a bit messy!
Set in the gorgeous Hotel Rural Sant Ignasi and surrounded by Menorca’s lovely countryside, Smoix is a must-visit for anyone eager to taste authentic local flavours. Chef Miquel Sánchez pours his heart into every dish, using fresh, seasonal ingredients to craft a Mediterranean-inspired menu that truly delights. This charming spot is not just a feast for your taste buds but also a treat for the eyes.
The airport is located in Mahón, making it a convenient starting point for your Menorca adventure. Many travellers choose to spend their first few nights here, while others might stop by for just a day trip. Even if it’s not on your itinerary, you’ll likely pass through- and you definitely should!
Perched on a cliff with stunning views of the harbour, Mahón is a delightful spot for food lovers. You’ll find cosy cafés in picturesque plazas, pastel-coloured buildings, cobblestone streets, and the lively Mercat des Peix. If you’re staying in the south or east of Menorca, where some of the island’s best beaches are located, be sure to take the time to explore dreamy Mahón.
The fish market is open Tuesday to Saturday from 7 AM to 2 PM. During the summer, the food area serves delicious dishes from 11 AM to 11 PM, Monday to Saturday, and even on Sundays in July and August. In the winter, the hours are more limited, with the food area open only on Fridays and Saturdays. You can find it on google maps here. While it’s not a hidden gem and draws plenty of tourists, it remains one of the top attractions in Mahón
Gin is Menorca’s top export, so visiting Gin Xoriguer, the island’s beloved local distillery, was one of our first stops in Mahón! Founded nearly 100 years ago by the Pons family to satisfy sailors craving gin, Xoriguer is now a family-run business known for its unique flavours and iconic windmill logo. You’ll spot Xoriguer on every bar menu, making it a must-try while you’re here.
Drop by the distillery- no reservations needed! You can peek through large windows to watch part of the production process, and best of all, enjoy free tastings of many of their products.
Located on the south-eastern coast, Binibeca Vell is one of the most enchanting villages in Menorca, straight out of a fairy tale. With its narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses, and charming corners, it should definitely be on your itinerary! As one of the most visited places in Menorca, it’s best to arrive early during peak summer to avoid the crowds. There are also beautiful coastal walks nearby and lovely rocky coves where you can take a swim.
Es Castell Port is a dreamy harbour lined with charming restaurants and traditional wooden boats. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of colourful buildings across the water while sipping a drink and sampling tapas. We stopped by intending to stay briefly but ended up spending hours soaking in the atmosphere! For an unforgettable experience, try Chespir Cales Fonts tapas bar.
Amapola Menorca Obrador de Pancafe also offers delicious freshly baked goods, toasts, and fresh orange juice. We stopped here the next morning for a quick breakfast before heading out to Binibeca.
The Hauser & Wirth Museum on Illa del Rei is a must-see in Menorca! This unique gallery, featuring eight exhibition spaces and an outdoor sculpture trail by renowned artists, sits on its own island-accessible only by boat from Mahón Harbour, making the journey part of the charm.
Getting There: Hop on the shuttle boat from Mahón’s port for a relaxing 15-minute ride with beautiful views. Tickets are €5 per person if purchased online in advance (€6 onboard) and include museum entry. Boats run every hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the last return at 5:30 p.m. If you prefer a private trip, you can book a water taxi for €15 per person (minimum of two) by messaging +34 689 428 098 on WhatsApp.
Cantina Restaurant: For a meal or drink, stop by Cantina restaurant, the museum’s on-site restaurant. The decor at Cantina is stunning, so definitely make time to stop in between exploring the museum! It’s a popular spot, so reservations are a good idea.
The museum is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a seasonal closing after October 31st.
The hike to Cala Macarella takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on your pace, followed by a short, scenic walk to Cala Macarelleta.
This section of the Cami de Cavalls is a must-do in Menorca. The trail winds through shady pine forests, along rocky cliffs, and opens up to breathtaking sea views. Cala Macarella is the perfect spot to take a break, enjoy the scenery, and grab a bite at Cafetería Susy. The food is basic, but it does the trick if you’re hungry! A little further, you’ll find Cala Macarelleta, a quieter, more secluded cove with stunning turquoise waters and soft white sand- ideal for a refreshing swim. Personally, I preferred this peaceful spot.
The hike to Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta is just one section of the Cami de Cavalls, a historic trail that circles Menorca. Stretching 185 kilometers (115 miles) and divided into 20 segments, this trail is one of the most popular due to its short, scenic route and stunning beaches. For more adventure, you can explore other segments that highlight different parts of Menorca’s coastline and countryside.
Cala Mitjana- For those seeking peace, Cala Mitjana offers a secluded, natural setting surrounded by pine trees and cliffs. The calm waters make it great for snorkelling, and the short walk from Cala Galdana is perfect for nature lovers.
Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta are true Mediterranean gems, with turquoise waters framed by limestone cliffs and pines. Cala Macarelleta, the smaller of the two, has a slightly more secluded feel. Both are accessible via a scenic coastal hike
Cala Pregonda- With its unusual reddish-golden sand and striking rock formations, Cala Pregonda feels like a hidden piece of paradise. Accessible by a 30-minute hike, it’s quieter and ideal for those looking to avoid the crowds. This beach’s unique landscape makes it one of Menorca’s most distinctive spots.
Cala Turqueta is a classic Menorcan beach, known for its clear blue waters and soft sands. While popular, it still retains a relaxed atmosphere. Arriving early is key here, as it can get busy, but its beauty makes it worth the visit!
Cala Escorxada is a hidden gem for those willing to walk a bit farther from the main paths. The hour-long hike leads to a quiet, unspoiled cove with clear, shallow waters, perfect for a peaceful day in nature.
If you’re in Menorca, don’t miss the sunset at Pont d’En Gil. Just a short drive from Ciutadella, this spot offers amazing views as the sun sets over the sea. The natural rock formations add to it’s beauty, make it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the colours of the sky as the day ends. It’s a beautiful and peaceful to catch an unforgettable sunset!
Cova d’en Xoroi is a famous and stunning spot in Menorca, located in a natural cave along the cliffs of the island’s southern coast, near the village of Cala en Porter. Even though it’s popular with tourists, it’s definitely worth the visit. This unique bar offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, making it the perfect place to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset. Whether you’re inside the cave or on the terrace, the scenery is spectacular!
Unfortunately, there is an entrance fee to access Cova d’en Xoroi. However, if you book your tickets online in advance, you can skip the queue and head straight in. You can book your tickets here.
